Toolstation reaches 400 branches after adding 100 stores in 2 years

Travis Perkins-owned supplier Toolstation now has 400 branches, a mere 23 months after it opened its 300th store.

Toolstation's store in Balham, South West London, officially opened its doors on Friday (24th Jan) with games, prizes and input from On the Tools, plus support from Everbuild and Trend Tools. The first 400 customers also had chance to pick up a free Greggs sausage roll in branch.

Toolstation's punishingly fast branch opening schedule means it has already opened its 401st branch, in Bredbury, Greater Manchester yesterday (27 January 2020).

The brand has been a consistent performer for owner Travis Perkins (which is set to de-merge from its other household name, Wickes, as the group seeks to place its focus on trade customers).

Despite the growth, Toolstation still has potential to expand further. The Toolstation 400 branches total compares with Kingfisher-owned Screwfix's 650 in the UK (with many more overseas, including its first three in Ireland). Toolstation also boasts stores outside the UK, but in much more modest numbers than its Screwfix rival.

Toolstation acquired the controlling share of Toolstation Europe last year, which at the time provided a 15% boost in like-for-like sales in Q3 2019.
