Optimas' Barton Cold-Form cuts lead time following urgent production shift

Optimas’ UK manufacturing division, Barton Cold-Form, has successfully completed a major production shift for a client, reducing the delivery lead time from six weeks to just six days.

A customer of Barton Cold-Form experienced a technical IT error, resulting in the stock of externally threaded fasteners reaching a dangerously low level. This low level would stop the client’s production within only a week unless the fasteners could arrive in time.

Barton Cold-Form made several production adjustments after receiving the request from the client. Firstly, it reorganised the tooling schedule and completed a tool change within four hours, which normally takes eight hours. Secondly, it resumed manufacturing overnight and activated local subcontractors for plating and hardening.

After adjustments, Barton Cold-Form successfully dispatched the fasteners by 6am on the following Monday.

Commenting on this production adjustment, Mike Tuffy, CEO Optimas International said: “This is what UK manufacturing excellence looks like—fast, focused and deeply connected to our local supply chain.”

Frank Walsh, Vice President of UK Manufacturing at Optimas, added that Barton operates as a cohesive unit, with everyone aligning with a shared purpose when a challenge arises.

Barton Cold Form specialises in the production of externally threaded fasteners for a wide range of industries, providing Optimas’ UK and European customers with in-house fastener design, engineering and production capabilities.

Recently, Optimas announced the opening of its new European headquarters in Hambach, France, relocating from its facility in Sarreguemine.
