Snap-on buys UK-based Cognitran for $31 million

Chelmsford, UK-headquartered Cognitran has been acquired by Snap-on incorporated.

Cognitran specialises in flexible, modular and highly scalable “Software as a Service” (SaaS) products for OEM customers and their dealers, focused on the creation and delivery of service, diagnostics, parts and repair information to the OEM dealers and connected vehicle platforms.

Working with the likes of JDB, Cognitran recently opened an office in Coventry, its second in the UK, close to the centre of the UK automotive industry.

The Cognitran acquisition is not Snap-on's first this year. It picked up Power Hawk Technologies - a critical rescue tool brand - in April for $8 million. Snap-on has also been active in the UK acquisition field, having purchased Norbar Torque Tools in 2017.

Cognitran will become part of Snap-on's Repair Systems & Information Group.

Snap-on said the acquisition enhances and expands its capabilities in providing shop efficiency solutions through integrated upstream services to OEM customers in automotive, heavy duty, agricultural and recreational applications.
