Simpson Strong-Tie parent publishes inaugural sustainability report

Simpson Manufacturing Co has released its inaugural Sustainability, Environmental and Social Responsibility Report, highlighting the company's commitment to sustainable business practices to its employees and stakeholders.

Simpson Manufacturing, headquartered in California through its subsidiary Simpson Strong-Tie, designs, engineers and manufacturers wood construction products, including fasteners, fastening systems and adhesives.

Karen Colonias, President and CEO of Simpson, said of the report: "Since our founding in 1956, we have established deep-rooted core values that continue to define our business today. At the forefront of these values is doing what's right for our people, customers, communities and environment. Through this inaugural report, we are striving to better communicate our sustainability, environmental and social responsibility efforts over the years to showcase why Simpson is an attractive investment beyond just the numbers."

The report, which can be found on the company's website, outlines the company's environmental protection, health and safety management policy, including the firm's manufacturing and water management processes, recycling and energy conservation policies.

"The contributions of our founder, Barclay Simpson, to our company, employees, the construction industry and the non-profit community were immeasurable," Colonias continued. "He instilled the core values and created the strong culture that have made Simpson a unique and inspiring place to work and have established our reputation as a quality, trusted manufacturer. As a company, we're honoured to continue his legacy as a responsible corporate citizen."

Simpson Manufacturing saw net sales grow 5.4% year-on-year to $1.14 billion in 2019. Despite the negative impact of currency exchange, profits were up too, by 2.5% to $492.1 million (2018: $480.3 million).
