UK warehouse space at a premium as availability shrinks ahead of Brexit

75% of UK warehouse owners have run out of space and storage costs have gone up by a quarter as wholesalers and distributors prepare for Brexit, according to a report in The Guardian.

Quoting figures from the UKWA (UK Warehousing Association), there is a particular shortage of space close to major cities. UKWA members number 750, with 9.3 million m2 nationwide. 75% said they didn't have capacity to take on any more business while 85% said they'd received 85% Brexit enquiries.

The BIAFD has warned that wholesalers stockpiling inventory ahead of March 2019's Brexit date will not alone be able to mitigate potential disruption in the supply chain (Torque Magazine, Nov-Dec 2018).

Meanwhile, MPs continue to debate with each other on the nature of the UK's EU withdrawal. The UK is to leave the Union on 29 March 2019.
