Screwfix scores twice in Retail Week Awards

Screwfix, the UK's largest multi-channel retailer of trade tools, accessories and hardware products, was featured among the winners of the 2016 Retail Week Awards.

Sponsored by Oracle, the Awards took place at Grosvenor House, London, hosted by comedian Steven Mangan.

While the Retailer of the Year Award went to Dixons Carphone, Screwfix won in two categories; the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Multichannel Retailer of the Year, and the Deloitte Employer of the Year.

Screwfix was named Employer of the Year in recognition of its investment in its 8,500 strong workforce, which has driven real business growth. The judges praised its “impressive development programme”, which consistently internally fills over 60% of all manager appointments, and also the way in which employees on the ground can directly develop and suggest programmes to innovate the business based on customer needs they identify.

Andrew Livingston, CEO of Screwfix, comments: “We are absolutely delighted to win these awards. It’s another fantastic milestone for Screwfix and offers real recognition for our team’s hard work.

“At Screwfix we are fully aware that our staff are central to the success of the company and we need a strong team to take the business forward and support our plans to further expand our network of 457 stores. Colleague engagement and development is core to our success. It drives our growth through a culture of involvement, empowerment and continuous improvement that makes us a great place to work and ensures we offer fantastic convenience to our busy trade customers.”

The judges recognised Screwfix’s significant achievements over the last 12 months, including a strong internal development programme which aims to promote and recognise excellence both internally and externally, real-time colleague feedback with Your Screwfix, Your Say, which gives employees a voice within the company, and a staff satisfaction rate in excess of 90% in its annual HR survey.

Chris Brook-Carter, Editor-in-Chief of Retail Week, said: “The judges faced their toughest year yet deciding on this year’s Retail Week Award winners. The entries highlighted that a multitude of retailers are relentlessly innovating to accommodate the needs of the modern-day consumer, while establishing British retail as a key asset to the UK economy.”

Entries will open for next year’s awards in June 2016.
