BIAFD on 2025: "A year of change, collaboration and confidence"

Torque Magazine asked key industry associations for their views on the last 12 months. We started with BIAFD...

CBAM has been dominating discussions in the UK as well as in Europe, and BIAFD has been fighting the corner of the fastener distribution sector with its associates, as well as offering a regular place for its members to meet, collaborate and network…

"It’s been another busy and eventful year for the British and Irish Association of Fastener Distributors (BIAFD), one
marked by change, new challenges and plenty of collaboration across the industry.

"At the heart of the association, the Management Committee has seen some changes, with several longstanding
members stepping down after many years of valued service, and new faces stepping up to bring fresh energy and ideas. That mix of experience and new perspective is helping ensure BIAFD continues to represent the needs of the fastener distribution sector as it evolves.

"One issue that continues to dominate discussions is CBAM. Understandably, there’s been growing concern about what it means for UK distributors and importers trading into Europe. But the picture has become much clearer thanks to BIAFD’s close links with the European Fastener Distributor Association, associate members like Crowe UK, and direct engagement with government departments. These connections have helped cut through the confusion and make sure members get the best available information and guidance as the regulations take shape.

"Beyond policy and paperwork, BIAFD has continued to do what it does best – bringing people together. Meetings and briefings throughout the year have offered valuable opportunities for members to share insight, compare notes and stay on top of shifting market conditions.

"As we look ahead, BIAFD’s focus remains on keeping members better informed, better protected and better supported. That ongoing commitment is reflected in the association’s strong membership numbers – proof that even in a challenging environment, the value of working together and sharing knowledge continues to grow."
